Came here on a weekday lunch and they have a a lunch specials menu with +$1.50 for a drink.
I admit I did not try a variety of dishes, ordered 1 rice and 2 noodles. The other dishes e.g. meat and veg are quite pricey in my opinion.
Sin chow bee Hoon is fantastic! Wok hey was on point and you can see how fast we emptied the plate. Yang Zhou fried rice is pretty good but the Hor fun was pretty meh, lacked wok hey and flavour.
Nice zi char place with efficient staff and kitchen! Dishes arrive quickly and are delicious! Love the grilled squid - soft and juicy and delicious! Recommend to book in advance for big groups, they have 2 private dining rooms with minimum surcharge. Parking is easy and there's a direct entrance to the restaurant from the carpark.
Decided to try this place after reading a few bloggers write about them. Pretty good overall and particular loved the tea smoked chicken, going to try smoking them myself soon. Pity that we didn’t get to try the bbq stuff so that would be something that I plan to try next time. This place also has free corkage, which is a big positive.
Excellent food quality and variety. Service has been consistently good. Corkage is waived. Location is 3 min walk from MRT.
Some dishes need to be order in advance.
Food was served shortly after ordering. Would recommend ordering the KL hokkien mee, 够味 (contains pork lard btw) . The stir fried veg with garlic was also delicious (but on a pricier end). The sweet and sour pork contained mostly dough :/
The KL Hokkien noodle was incredible. Good wokhei! Qinglong vege with beansprouts was tasty, the Tea baked chicken was very aromatic, Mongolian pork was meaty and good, kailan with fungus was one of thd best I tasted, the lambchop was a bit disappointing though. Else service was speedy and good!
The tea smoked chicken meat is ok. Not dry. There is a smoked smell but no tea smell nor taste. They miss the point.
The hor fun has wok smell, enough oil to smooth the kway teow but not too oily. Eat once or twice ok but if continue, the salty fish will take over the tongue. Too saltish. Recommended but eat with a big group or tell the chef to put lesser saltfish.
KL hokkien mee is ok.
Chai poh tofu is ok.
This "dragon+bean sprout veg" taste is ok, taste quite balance. But a big plate cost $30
The grill sotong is ok. However, the grill is not good enough to fragrant. If they dont have enough time to grill properly, should consider putting some light spices on the sotong to grill. This effort should be there as they charge about $56 for the sotong. Likewise, the smoked chicken is $47, pls smoke properly ( with correct tea leaves). Overall, its average like any cze char.
Very good dining experience here.
Staff were attentive and service great. Ordering lady provided recommendations and always smiling.
Recommendations were good and my own choices were depending on google reviews.
This is what the 6 of us shared. All small portions.
Dry Roasted Sotong. This is quite good although I could not tell how it was roasted. Served on a plate with 2 squid of a good size for 6. Only 1 person in the group commented slightly saltish.
Signature Prawn Fritters. Served alongside mayonaise. Definitely recommended !! 👍👍. A dish where one's face light up when you bite into the fritter.
Curry Fishhead. Only 1 size. Very fragrant curry, even drinkable on its own. Served with a good amount of taupok, lady's finger, eggplant, tomatoes and onions. Fish head is fresh and the white meat tender.
Fu Rong Egg. As expected of what this common tze char egg should be. Very hard to go wrong with this fried egg and this place does it right.
Kailan with black fungus. Crisp kailan and black fungus cooked in a savoury braised starch sauce. Really yummy. Ordering the kailan alone is good enough, black fungus is extra.
Last but not least, Pig Stomach Soup. As per menu, this dish has to br ordered in advance. I did not but lady recommended it because others ordered and there are extra portions to go around so do ask for it if you want or just make an order request in advance. Can tell that the soup had been boiled for long. Soup was really tasty, good amount of pig stomach and chicken parts. Don't miss if you enjoy pig stomach.
Total spent $185
Restaurant is non-airconditioned but well ventilated. Located at Mapex building basement but can be seen from the traffic light if you are coming from Exit B of Marymount Mrt station.
